AFP inaugurates world’s longest peace mural

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Saturday formally unveiled the world’s longest peace mural along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), in Quezon City.

Dubbed as “Lakbay Para sa Kapayapaan sa EDSA,” the mural project spans 3.77 kilometers along EDSA, White Plains Avenue, and Col. Bonny Serrano Avenue in Quezon City.

The “Lakbay para sa Kapayapaan sa EDSA” is a joint project between AFP, Asia America Initiative, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process, Dolphins Love Freedom Movement and the Metro Manila Development Authority.

The project aims to apply the Filipino practice of bayanihan in solving armed conflict, promote awareness on Philippine history, to foster cultural and religious understanding and appreciation among Filipinos and also to highlight positive values and simple actions Filipinos can do to contribute in the peace process.

Research showed the country’s mural project would be the longest peace mural in Asia and even in the whole world that could beat Chile’s Guinness record attempt.
