BAGUIO: The Cooperative Development Authority (CDA)–Cordillera recently held advocacy campaigns among cooperatives in the Cordillera region on the new mandatory requirements. CDA Senior Cooperative Development Specialist Martin Manodon said among additional mandatory requirements for coops based on Republic Act 9520 or the Philippine Cooperative Code of 2008 are social audit, performance audit with the list of officers and trainings completed. Submission of such additional documents will take effect this year. These are apart from the regular documents required such as audited financial statement and the Cooperative Annual Performance Report, he said stressing that the additional requirements strengthen transparency in the operation of cooperatives in terms of their vision, mission and goals. The social audit will serve as control mechanism to account for its social performance and evaluate its impact in the community taking into account the community development fund which shall be used for projects or activities that will benefit the community where the cooperative operates.
