BAGUIO CITY: The great-grandson of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo issued a call on Filipinos to show their love for the flag and the nation as he rallied support for incoming President Rodrigo Duterte.
Emilio Aguinaldo Suntay 3rd, board member of the Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Foundation, said he noticed that through the years, people have been less patriotic even during the celebration of the Flag Day (May 28) and the Independence Day (June 12).
In the past, people have shown their great love for the flag by placing flags on their cars, hanging it on windows of houses and offices, pinning flags on clothes. But these can only be rarely seen today, he said.
“National Flag Day should be celebrated every day to show patriotism and the love for the country it represents and the people, the Filipinos,” said Suntay who was the guest speaker during the program led by the city government of Baguio thru the City Tourism Office recently.
Suntay also rallied support for Duterte who has shown unorthodox style as a leader.
“It is an interesting year for the Philippines this 2016 with the election of a new president who has been seen showing his love for the flag by kissing the flag in many occasion and said he would do anything for the flag, even sacrifice his presidency for the country,” he said.
