• Aguinaldo, Perpetual beat foes in NCAA women’s volley


    EMILIO Aguinaldo College Lady Generals needed only three sets to beat Mapua, 25-7, 25-12, 25-15, while defending champion University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Lady Altas routed Letran, 25-13, 25-12, 25-19, in the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

    Arian Angustia notched 12 hits while Donna Mae Factor had two blocks for the Lady Generals, who needed only 50 minutes to secure the win. Norie Diaz posted 10 service aces, surpassing the season record of nine by San Beda star Janine Marciano on Tuesday. She also posted 15 points plus five digs while Honey Royse Tubino contributed 13 hits for Perpetual Help.

    With the setback, Mapua remains winless in five outings while Letran became the first team to bow out of the Final Four race with a 0-6 card.

    In the men’s division, Perpetual likewise beat Letran, 25-17, 25-21, 25-13, for a 6-0 card and extend its winning streak to 39 games. Edmar Sanchez posted 12 points while Bonjomar Castel and Rex Castro added nine apiece for the Altas.
