ALLEGED New People’s Army (NPA) rebels abducted a village official suspected to be as military spy on Sunday dawn in a village in Loreto, Agusan del Sur, police reported on Monday. Reports identified the official as Edgar Bantuasan, a councilman of Brgy. Sta. Teresa, Loreto town. The reports said that a group of heavily armed men swooped down on the village at around 5 a.m. Sunday and herded some 70 male residents of the village at an elementary school. The armed men reportedly hogtied Bantuasan and accused him of being a military informant before bringing him to Sitio Cabuga in the same village, the police reports said. The reports added that the armed men demanded for the withdrawal of police and military forces in the area and threatened the villagers of being killed if they will continue supporting government troops.
