• ‘AHAS’ braces for voluntary title defense

WORLD Boxing Organization (WBO) light flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes started training this week to prepare for his voluntary defense in August against an undetermined foe and a mandatory rematch against Mexican Moses Fuentes in November.

“I’m preparing hard for my next battle and I’m expecting both my upcoming opponents are tough,” said Nietes, 31, who retained his title via majority decision win against Fuentes in March. “So far, I still have no idea whom I will fight in August but I must be ready.”

Nietes (31-1-4 win-loss-draw card with 17 knockouts) is currently training at the ALA boxing gym in Cebu City with fellow flyweight Rocky Fuentes as sparring partner.
Nietes and Fuentes are both claiming victories in their previous bout.

“Against Fuentes, I think I must be smarter and consistent in our rematch,” Added Nietes who explained he aims improving his conditioning, stamina and endurance to be able to fight well until the later rounds.
