While ABS-CBN continues to build up the anticipation for this generation’s remake of the Mars Ravelo classic Dyesebel starring Anne Curtis, rival station GMA Network has beat them to the punch with its very own “sirenaserye” (mermaid series), canned and ready to air on Monday, March 10.

Hoping to make a big splash on prime time television is Kambal Sirena starring one of the network’s top leading ladies, Louise delos Reyes in the role of twins Alona  and Perlas.

According to GMA Network’s creative team for Drama, “The fresh and original story of Kambal Sirena set against a ‘state-of-the-art production design with spectacular visual effects’ will surely enthrall and impress viewers.”

Fresh from her successful string of soap operas, namely Alakdana, One True Love and Mundo Mo’y Akin, Louise meanwhile declares that Kambal Sirena is her most challenging role to date, what with two very diverse characters to portray.

Describing the twins, Louise revealed that Alona and Perlas are born with unusual features—one with gills behind her ears and the other with a mermaid’s tail. Worried their neighbors will fear their strange features, the twins’ mother decides to move to an isolated island, a journey during which the sisters become separated from each other. Living with her mother, Perlas ends up working in an ocean park, while Alona finds herself in the Kingdom of Sirenadia deep below the ocean, where she is treated as a princess.

Joining Louise in the cast are leading man Aljur Abrenica, Lotlot De Leon, Angelika Dela Cruz, Mickey Ferriols, Chanda Romero, Tessie Tomas, Mickey Ferriols, Nova Villa, Ryan Eigenmann, Mike Tan, Pancho Magno, Wynwyn Marquez, Yul Servo, Rich Asuncion, Polo
Ravales, and Gladys Reyes.

“GMA Network takes pride in Kambal Sirena with its one-of-a-kind production from its production design, magnificent costumes, and visually outstanding effects up to the remarkable underwater scenes,” declared senior vice president for Entertainment, Lilybeth Rasonable, during the show’s official launch on Tuesday, which had the cast in
