• Ai-Ai keeps keeps her ‘heart’ on her sleeve

Quelling rumors that she was merely waiting for her contract with GMA Network to end and make a comeback in ABS-CBN, Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas signed a brand new deal with the “Kapuso” bosses on Monday.

“It wasn’t hard to decide. I still want to be Kapuso,” she declared even before the ink could dry on the document.

Ai-Ai swears she is very satisfied with her relationship with GMA, and loves the shows the studio has given her.

“Signing a new contract means more work, may mga trabaho na naman ako. One of them is a new show with Bossing [Vic Sotto]. I can’t reveal the details yet pero we already had a meeting, nag-pictorial na rin kami. Ibig sabihin, malapit na malapit na siyang mapanood.

“Sa ngayon, busy muna ako sa ‘Sunday Pinasaya.’ We just celebrated our second anniversary, and we really have all the reason to do so because the rating is high. That’s why I’m so thankful to the viewers because since we started airing, they’ve been supporting us kaya naman pasabog ang second anniversary namin, di ba?”

    Ai-Ai delas Alas

Network Senior Vice-President for Entertainment TV Lilybeth Rasonable, meanwhile, intimated to Showbuzz that they have even bigger plans for Ai-Ai from hereon. Since she has been winning acting awards both here and abroad, they will give her roles befitting her caliber.

“Ai-Ai is a very versatile performer. She’s not only a concert box-office drawer, she is not only excellent in comedy, but she’s also a very good dramatic actress. We are currently discussing to explore that side of Ai-Ai. We’ve already talked to her about it and she’s very excited,” Rasonable related.

At her contract signing, Ai-Ai didn’t just wear her heart on her sleeve but literally dressed up in countless little “kapuso” in a heart-patterned off shoulder top.

Everyone complimented her on her ultra slim figure these days.

“Pati nga si Atty. Gozon, sabi ang payat ko. I told them that my change of diet is the key. It’s become a change of lifestyle. I only eat organic vegetables and fruits, no meat, no dairy. Pwede rin namang mag-meat at least twice a month or fish and other seafood. Ako lang kasi I cannot eat them because bawal sa akin for my allergies.

“It was really hard at first because you’ll turn your back on food that you’ve been used to eating but after some time, masasanay ka din,” she explained.

Super svelte, the next compliment she received was how fabulous she’ll look in a wedding gown.

“Huwag kayong mainip, malapit na. Ilang buwan na lang,” she laughed.

“Sa December na, tuloy na tuloy na ang wedding namin ni Gerald (Sibayan, her fiance). Sinabi ko na nga kay Atty. Gozon i-block-off niya na yung date. Siyempre nandu’n siya.”

Not ready to share other details, Ai-Ai said instead, “Si Gerald, nagpapapayat na. Gusto raw niya pumayat kasi sa wedding daw ang payat-payat ko tapos siya ang taba-taba.

    Alfred Vargas with wife Yasmine

“It’s good that his job requires him to really exert physical effort. Coach kasi siya ng badminton sa school kaya laro din siya nang laro. Ngayon, he plays even more so he will lose weight faster.”

Finally, she said they’ve completed the entourage for the big day but will only announce names when they’ve informed those in the list.

“Baka naman ma-shock sila pag pinagsasabi ko mga pangalan nila na hindi pa namin sila nakakausap. Let us talk to them first because that’s the proper way. When we get their blessing, we will definitely announce it. Siyempre you’ll be the first to know. Kayo pa ba?”

Meanwhile, last Sunday saw the church wedding of Quezon City Congressman Alfred Vargas and his wife Yasmine. Married in a civil ceremony in July 2010, the church wedding has been Alfred’s promise to his beautiful wife.

The ceremony was held at the Manila Cathedral, with VIPs standing as principal sponsors.

Among those spotted by Showbuzz were Vice-President Leni Robredo, former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, Congressman Sonny Belmonte, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte, Lilybeth Rasonable of GMA, Alfred’s manager Lolit Solis, Seiko Films producer Robbie Tan and Kris Aquino.

Also in attendance were Dingdong Dantes, Anjo Yllana, and couples Marco Alcaraz and Lara Quigaman and Rochelle Pangilinan and Arthur Solinap.

Alfred was a picture of a dashing groom as he waited for his bride by the altar. As Yasmine, who was a vision in her wedding gown, started walking down the aisle, Alfred could not control his tears.

“Those were tears of happiness,” Alfred quipped as Showbuzz caught up with couple as they arrived at the dinner reception at The Peninsula Manila. “At last, I’ve fulfilled my promise to the woman I love. Noon pa ito dapat but so many things happened. At least we were able to really prepare for it.”

Because Alfred has to return to Congress right away, they’ve had to move their honeymoon to a later date.

All the same, the couple is working on having a third child, hopefully a boy.

“We really want to have a son. Our two daughters have been asking when they will have a baby brother so we are really working on it. Sana nga, matupad,” Alfred fervently wished.

At Gabbi Garcia’s round table for her upcoming Mega Style shoot in Nice, France [see related story—Ed], she told Showbuzz she will be returning to a full work schedule right after.

“I’ve started with my series of workshops for my next soap although wala pa akong idea what the story will be,” she said.

Asked who her leading man will be, Gabbi would rather stay mum.

From what Showbuzz learned, Gabbi will no longer be paired with Ruru in this new project. As such a couple of Kapuso actors have done screen tests with the pretty lady but no decision has been made on who will get the part.

“I welcome the idea of being paired with another actor. I’ve always been paired with Ruru since I started so I think it’s about time that I work with other leading men. Kami naman ni Ruru, we’re still together on Sunday Pinasaya and we remain friends,” Gabbi enthused.

SHORTS…. Donita Rose has accepted the fact that she and former husband Erick Villarama have reached the end of the road after their divorce came through in December 2016. She admits she was so affected that she decided not to accept any acting assignments immediately after. But now that Donita has learned to forgive, she said she can finally move on. In fact, she allowed her son to go on a three-month vacation with Erick in the States. She is also ready for acting assignments now, even as she begins taping for cooking capsules to be shown on GMA Network’s morning block, entitled “Heart Mate” for a canola oil brand.

GUESS WHO? Is it true that a popular young actress was dropped by the ad agency responsible for one of her endorsements? The reason, reportedly, is immorality.
