THE Philippine Air Force (PAF) ruled the men’s and women’s divisions of the 2013 Philippine Olympic Committee-Philippine Sports Commission (POC-PSC) National Games volleyball competition at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The PAF women squad crushed Cagayan Valley, 21-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-18, while the PAF men’s team nipped National University, 25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22, in the finals.
Meanwhile, three more records were shattered in the centerpiece athletics event in the penultimate day of the tournament supported by Milo, STI Colleges, Standard Insurance, Procter and Gamble, Ayala Corporation, Summit Mineral Water, Bala Energy Drink, LBC, 7-Eleven, Tea Monkey, Delos Santos Medical Center, SPIN.ph, Splash Island, Enchanted Kingdom, Everlast, Innoderm–Metropharma Phil. Inc., Peak Martial Arts and BSP Employees Association.
Filipino-American Eric Shauwn Cray posted 14.17-seconds in the men’s 110-m hurdles erasing the old mark of 14.58-secs. set by Patrick Unso in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia. Unso improved his time record to 14.21-secs. but only good enough for the silver medal. His teammate Jose Unso bagged the bronze by notching 15.00-sec.
Also setting new records were national team mainstays Eliezer Sunang in the men’s shot put. Sunang posted 16.58 meters to break his old mark of 16.56 that he set in August 2012. Jesse Mae Fernandez posted 35.36 in the juniors women’s hammer throw surpassing the 13-year record of 33.56 meters by Lora lie Sermona.
In baseball, De La Salle University notched a slim 7-6 win over National University while Philab trounced Ateneo, 8-3. The Fencing competition at the Philsports Arena saw University of the East winning over Far Eastern University, 45-23, in the finals of the women’s foil team contest.
