Airman killed in Batangas encounter

A MEMBER of the Philippine Air Force was killed during an encounter with suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Tuy, Batangas Monday night.

Airman 1st Class Cliff Arvin Alama of the 730th Combat Group (CG), 710th Special Operations Wing (SPOW) under Joint Task Group “Finisher Warrior,” was declared dead on arrival at Western Batangas Medical Center in Balayan.

A report said 12 soldiers of the 730th CG were on patrol in Barangay Toong, Luy when the encounter occurred.

The guerrillas later withdrew when reinforcements sent by Col. Peale John Bondoc, task group commander, arrived.

Pursuit operations have been launched even as the Armed Forces of the Philippines Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) vowed to continue its focused operations to eliminate rebels to “preserve its gains in peace and development in the provinces of Batangas, Cavite and Laguna.”
