Some 800 airport transport drivers on Wednesday hailed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for pushing federalism as the country’s new system of government.
These transport personnel are among the 6,000 members of the Airport Transport Concessionaires Association Inc. (Atchai), which has been urging Duterte to run for President in the 2016 elections.
According to Atchai chairman, Romy Sayaman, the mayor, however, “consistently declines [to join the race to Malacanang in next year’s polls],” supposedly saying he was advocating federalism without thinking about seeking the highest office in the land.
Sayaman said they and their families remain optimistic that Duterte will change his mind and run for President in the 2016 balloting.
He added that they believe the Davao City mayor would be a good leader once he was elected to higher office.
Airport transport driver Milan Bajada said he wants to support Duterte because of what he did in Davao.
“Ang laki ng ipinagbago ng Davao dahil sa kanya [Davao changed a lot because of him],” Bajada added without elaborating.
