Aklan bank asst. manager shot dead; bank set on fire


ILOILO CITY: The assistant manager of a rural bank in the province of Aklan was shot dead inside the bank early Friday morning.

A police report reaching Iloilo City identified the victim as Gabriel Manican, 68, of Barangay Capilihan, Ibajay town, the assistant manager of the Rural Bank of Ibajay.

Police Sr. Insp. Ariel Nacar of the Ibajay PNP said they received earlier information that the rural bank was on fire.

Nacar said the town’s firemen immediately responded but when they entered the building, they found the body of Manican on the floor.

They took the victim to the Ibajay District Hospital where he was declared dead from a gunshot to his breast.

After the fire was put out, the firemen also recovered a fired cartridge and a spent bullet of undetermined caliber.

An investigation by the Ibajay PNP, showed that witnesses two gun fires, then saw the billowing smoke from the bank.

Police learned that the bank manager has the habit of going to the bank early in the morning as part of his routine check of the bank premises since the assigned security guard renders duty during day time only.
