• Aklan, Capiz swimmers stand out in PSL Boracay leg




    BORACAY: Michael Gabriel Lozada of Aklan and Yzandra Mae Opina of Capiz led the winners of the open water competition of the 1st Congressman Ted Haresco Jr. Swimming Cup held at the Boracay Regency Beach Front.
    Lozada crossed the finish line in five minutes and 40.26 to dominate the boys’ 7 years 400m event, while Opina ruled the girls’ 12 years 600m class in seven minutes and 40 seconds.
    The swimfest is the 56th leg of the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) Series.

    “It was a successful event seeing the happy faces of the kids, swimming in this pristine island of Boracay. They were able to enjoy the beach and at the same time experience high-level competition, said PSL President Susan Papa.
    Also shining in their categories were Rex dela Cruz (boys’ 6-under 200m), Bridgette Raine Bultron (girls’ 6-under 200m), Emanuel Jelankarlo Solina (boys’ 8 years 400m), Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh (girls’ 7 years 400m), Alynna Ysabel Garcia (girls’ 8 years 400m), Brent Jonathan Amimay (boys’ 9 years 600m), Lucio Cuyong II (boys’ 10 years 600m) and Lorenz Nicole Alfaro (girls’ 11 years 600m).
    The other winners were McTracy Alindogan (boys’ 13 years 800m), Kobe Soguilon (boys’ 14 years 800m), Kyla Soguilon (girls’ 9 years 600m), Angela Niones (girls’ 10 years 600m), David Villaruz ( boys’ 11 years 600m), Samuel Reodica (boys’ 12 years 600m), Kara Thereze Colaste (girls’ 13 years 800m), Celine Ann Delovato (girls’ 14 years 800m), Sean Elijah Enero (boys’ 15 years 800m), Emanuel Joshua Lorbes (boys’ 16 years 800m), Andrea Pacheco (girls’ 15 years 800m), Genevieve Canses (girls’ 16 years 800m), Wilson Ravino (boys’ 17-over 800m) and Joan Mojdeh (girls’ 17-over 800m).
    “We are now setting our sights on the next tournaments we are planning to stage in this region. We have more than 200 swimmers this time but we are expecting more as a lot of swimming clubs which did not make it to the deadline have already expressed their intention to participate,” added Papa.
    The PSL thanked the local government of Aklan headed by Aklan Rep. Ted Haresco, Philippine Red Cross-Boracay Chapter Chairman Nieva Mendoza, Youth Committee Chairman Elena Brugger, Aklan Swimming Club President Kokoy Soguilon, the Department of Education, the Philippine Sports Commission and Boracay Regency Hotel and Spa.
    The Philippine Red Cross-Boracay fielded in five swimmers who are products of its regular swimming camp.
