• Aklan, Iloilo bets lead MOS awardees

    Aklan’s Marc Sebastian Hauer and Iloilo’s Ma. Jasmine Queen Valenzuela spearheaded the list of the Most Outstanding Swimmer awardees in Motivational Division of the Philippine Swimming League (PSL) 98th National Series Visayas Swimming Meet held on Sunday at the Marzon Swimming Pool in Kalibo, Aklan.

    Hauer collected 44 points to claim the top honors in the boys’ 15-over category while Valenzuela got 43 points, good enough to clinch the MOS trophy in the girls’ 15-over class of the event supported by The Manila Times.

    Gaining MOS trophies in the girls’ division were Asha Segotier (6-under), Roselle Angela Palma (7), Llanice Jada Lozada (8), Janine Degoma (9), Queen Erica Andrade (10), Joanna Amor Cervas (11), Natasha Alexia Lozada (12), Atilla Pia Isabela Loy (13) and Georr Jude Briones (14).

    The other winners in the boys’ event were Joe Marie Borres (7), Gian Paolo Angelo Gomez (8), Robby Raymond Loy (9), Wilse Jude Azarcon (10), Jedrick Cipriano (11), Khraven Brian Villareal (12), Michael Marino (13) and Carl Wilfred Adones (14).

    Host Aklan Swimming Team headed by Manny De Leon bagged the overall championship trophy after amassing 1,394 points, beating second-placer Metro Iloilo Poseidon Swim Club, which earned 779 points.

    Capiz Turbo Shark Swim Club of coach Pepe Borres wound up third with 668 points followed by Poseidon Swim Club of coach Nini Loy with 664 points for fourth place.

    “We are happy with the outcome of the competition here in Aklan. We will continue staging tournament in the provinces to give chance to other swimmers to qualify for the Summer World University Games and other international competitions that we are joining,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

    The 99th PSL National Series Novice and Motivational Swimming Meet will be held on July 30 at the Diliman Preparatory School swimming pool in Quezon City.

    PSL is a national sports swimming association for Universities and Colleges accredited by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (Fessap), internationally affiliated member of Federation of International Sports University (FISU).
