ILOILO CITY: The National Meat Inspection System (NMIS) of the Department of Agriculture has said that only the slaughterhouse of Ibajay, Aklan has met the requirements and was accredited as Double A abattoir in the island of Panay. NMIS regional Dir. Maria Ancina Zartiga said Ibajay’s slaughterhouse has been considered as safe and clean for slaughter and processing of meat parts. On the other hand, the slaughterhouse of Passi City here was downgraded for noncompliance with the NMIS requirements. Slaughtering of pigs and other livestock continue but with certain conditions imposed by the accreditation process. It has no accreditation with NMIS and meat processed must be sold within city jurisdiction only. The city council here has approved last week a P2 million supplemental budget for the purchase of a new boiler.
