Aklan Swimming Team standouts Michael Gabriel Lozada and Kyla Soguilon made huge waves on Sunday by breaking records in their respective divisions in the 94th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series – 3rd Cong. Ted Haresco Jr. Swimming Cup and Open Water Competition at the Aklan Provincial Sports Complex in Makato, Aklan.
Lozada, a Palarong Pambansa medalist, smashed three records in the boys’ 9-year category previously owned by Robin Seranilla.
He submitted two minutes and 57.53 second in the 200m Individual Medley, blasting the 3:05.72 old mark of Robin Seranilla registered in 2013.
Lozada continued his dominating performance as he ruled the 50m breaststroke (44.43) and 50m backstroke (36.17) in record-fashions, erasing the 44.47 and 36.17 old marks, respectively.
On the other hand, Soguilon, the reigning Female Swimmer of the Year and 2016 Palarong Pambansa elementary girls Most Outstanding Swimmer awardee, notched two new marks in the girls’ 11-year event – 50m breaststroke (40.28) and 50m freestyle (29.60).
“Records were broken right here by Aklan swimmers and we are also happy that there are qualifiers from Bacolod, Aklan and Capiz for the World Summer University Games,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
Also winning gold medals were Sean Terence Zamora (boys’ 15-over 200m IM), Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh (girls’ 9-year 50m backstroke), Paula Carmela Cusing (girls’ 13-year 50m backstroke), Estelle Margaret Mendez (girls’ 7-year 50m backstroke), Trump Christian Luistro (boys’ 8-year 200m IM), Behrouz Mohammad Mojdeh (boys’ 6-under 50m butterfly) and Lucio Cuyong II (boys’ 12-year 50m breaststroke).
