• Alaska Aces inch closer to Finals

Rookie coach Alex Compton of the Alaska Aces expressed confidence that his wards can hurdle the challenge of Rain or Shine when they collide today in Game Two of the their best-of-five semifinals series in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Governor’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Aces beat the Elasto Painters 97-93 in Game One on Friday, avenging their resounding 72-123, defeat in the elimination round on June 4. It boosted the Aces’ morale going to the second game of the series today at 6 p.m.
“Henry Walker is great, he was aggressive. Our defense is doing well. It was really good that everywhere we go, we’re reminded of that 51-point. setback. Our victory in Game One was important for us, it boosted our confidence. Hopefully, we can build on this win,” said Alaska coach Alex Compton.
The 6’5 Walker dominated the opening game with his 31 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks. He was 52 percent in the field goal and was hitting seven-of-eight in the stripe compared to Arizona Reid’s 45.5 percent field goal shooting on 27 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals.
“At least in Game One, we held Rain or Shine to below 100 points,” added Compton, whose Aces shoot a high 84.6 percent in the free throw lane on 22-of-26 attempts.
