Albay coastal rangers to hunt illegal fishers

LEGAZPI CITY: Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara has envisioned coastal rangers as partners of government forces in going after illegal fishers poaching and destroying the marine resources here. The 43 sea warriors, including five policemen, will also guard inland forests. Bichara said he will request prosecutors and other stakeholders in the fight against illegal fishing to assist the Albay coastal rangers. Republic Act 8550 or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 has been amended to further ensure sustainability of the country’s marine and aquatic resources against all forms of destructive resource use.
