THE Department of Education (DepEd) has awarded the provincial government of Albay the right to host the 2016 Palarong Pambansa in May 2016.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said that Legazpi City has been chosen to host this year’s national games after a “tedious selection and deliberation process.” The other bidder Cagayan (Tuguegarao City).
“We reviewed the recommendations from the regions and had our own deliberations. We went through billeting, facilities, your presentations, including readiness of our regions, as well as other considerations that are specific to 2016. Ang nanalo po with a very, very slim margin is Albay” Luistro said.
Before the bidding and official presentations of the two provinces, the DepEd and the Philippine Sports Commission technical officials inspected each venue last June to see if the facilities and billeting areas are adequate.
With a budget of P300 million, Albay Gov. Joey Salceda assured the Palarong Pambansa Board that the province has the equipment and resources needed to construct and repair its sports facilities and venues as soon as possible.
