Alcala drug group leader falls in Quezon

SARIAYA, Quezon: Sahjid Alcala, son of Cerilo “Athel” Alcala, was arrested along with five others in a buy-bust at his residence in Barangay Balubal, this town on Tuesday.

Senior Supt Antonio Yarra, acting Quezon Philippine National Police director, identified the other suspects as Acer Olliriz Abutin Alcala, alias Red-Red, 23, younger brother of Sahjid; Joel Jamilla Lambit, 31; Noel Gabriel Abutin, 52; Dona May Radones Abastillas, 22; and Yumiko Angela Tan, 24.

Confiscated from Sahjid were 62.30 grams of shabu estimated to be worth P115,255 and drug paraphernalia at his home in Phase 2, Woodlanes Estates.

Alcala, 35, and his father Cerilo are considered high-profile drug suspects by the police.

The father and son surrendered to the Lucena City police last August accompanied by Athel’s brother, Quezon Rep. Vicente Alcala, and nephew Roderick Alcala, the mayor of Lucena.

They told law enforcers that they have stopped their drug activities a long time ago.

The father-son tandem belongs to the reported Alcala Drug Group in Quezon.

Athel and Shajid were both arrested in September 2008 in a major drug bust by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency at their ancestral home in Barangay Cotta.

Cases for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act were filed against them but they were able to post a 1.5-million bail.

Athel’s wife Ma. Fe and daughter Toni Ann were also arrested in a buy-bust in September 2016.
