Filipinos Francis Casey Alcantara missed the chance of playing in the 2017 Australian Open after losing in the quarterfinal round of the Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play-off tournament held at the Zhuhai Hengqin International Tennis Center in Guangdong, China.

Alcantara bowed to fifth seed Prajnesh Gunneswaran of India, 4-6, 1-6, sending the Indian to the semifinal round where he will face tournament top seed Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan.

Top players from the Asia-Pacific region are competing in this tour­-nament to earn a wild card in the main draw of next year’s Australian Open scheduled on January 16 to 29 in Melbourne.
