Filipino Francis Casey Alcantara and Indonesian Christopher Rungkat bowed out of contention in the 2016 ITF (International Tennis Federation) Hong Kong Futures 2 doubles event being held at the Victoria Park Tennis Courts.
Alcantara and Rungkat absorbed a heart-breaking 3-6, 6-1, 7-10 loss to the unheralded tandem of Markus Kerner of Estonia and Mikelis Libietis of Latvia in the semifinal round of the $10,000 tournament.
“Had a great match in doubles against Mikelis Libietis and his partner. Unfortunately Christopher and I couldn’t get the win but it was a great match indeed,” said the 24-year-old Cagayan de Oro City pride.
Alcantara and Jeson Patrombon will resume their campaign in the Hong Kong Futures 3 beginning next week at the same venue.
“One more week here in Hong Kong for the third leg and we’re hoping to get better results. Every day is a learning experience for us and we’re hoping to use that experience when we play next week,” added Alcantara, the 2009 Australian Open juniors doubles champion.
They will play in the qualifying round to earn spots in the main draw.
