Alcantara reaches Vietnam Futures final


Unseeded Francis Casey Alcantara barged into the final of the $10,000 Vietnam Futures-Becamex IDC Cup on Sunday after beating Indonesian David Agung Susanto.

The 24-year-old player from Caga­yan de Oro City rallied past No. 6 Ame­­rican Evan Song, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2, their semi­final encounter at the Community Sports Center in Thu Dau Mot City.

Alcantara, a member of the Philippine Davis Cup team, will go for the title against fifth seed Enzo Couacaud of France, who was leading 6-0, 5-0 when top seed Taiwanese Ti Chen retired.

On his way to the championship round, Alcantara also defeated No. 2 Laurent Rochette of France (first round) and No. 8 Indonesian David Agung Susanto (quarterfinal).

In the doubles category, Alcantara and Thai Kittiphong Wachirama­nowong lost to No. 4 Koreans Ju-Hae Moon and Sang-Woo Noh, 2-6, 4-6, in the semifinal.

The Koreans will dispute the title against top seeds Nam Hoang Ly of Vietnam and Chen, who won over third seeds Karol Drzewiecki and Maciej Smola of Poland, 6-1, 6-3, in the other semifinal match.
