PLUS: Kylie speaks up about uncle BB Gandanghari’s petition to change his sex to female; and a popular actor’s fear over Duterte’s fight against drugs
A very popular actor is said to be shaking in the knees ever since the Duterte administration has shown just how serious the government is in the fight against illegal drugs. People in the know say that this celebrity has been addicted to drugs for many years now and has even succeeded in getting his past girlfriends to take hits with him. Added Showbuzz’ source: “He carries himself well. You wouldn’t think he’s even into drugs when you see him—but the truth is he’s hooked on the stuff.” Here’s a clue: The popular actor is also an award-winner.
His call time for his first taping day was 10 a.m. but Alden Richards was already on the set of Encantadia an hour earlier. This, perhaps, was a sign that the most in-demand male celebrity of the day has missed acting in a soap. After all, it has been almost two years since he last did a daily drama series.
“This is the kind of excitement that I felt on the first taping day of my first soap [Alakdana].” Alden volunteered. “I arrived on the set early today because I was looking forward to the feeling of being on the set of a soap again, and so I can get to bond with the staff whom I’ve worked with in my past series. I missed them.
“When I got here, I was taken to makeup right away. And like before, I saw to it I came with all the requirements for taping, which I prepare myself the night before. Until now, I still do the same.”
To be part of the gigantic telefantasya Encantadia is a dream-come-true for Alden. According to the actor, he was a fan of the original series and the scenes from what is now considered a classic are still so vivid in his mind.
“That was 11 years ago. I remember I watched the show with my family and I was so mesmerized with all the special effects. I even know the characters up to now. When I learned that GMA was doing a ‘requel’ of Encantadia, I was really wishing to be a part of the show. That’s why when they told me that I have a role in the series, I was so happy.”
Alden is also thankful for the opportunity to work with his friends like Rocco Nacino, Glaiza De Castro and Kylie Padilla for the fantaserye. “Most of my scenes will be with them because my character has a strong connection with the sang’res so I’m sure the Encantadics will love my character,” Alden enthused.
Moreover, Alden is very excited about his costume. He shared that when he tried it, he felt like a kid who just got is first Batman costume. “I couldn’t control myself—nagpa-picture ako agad,” he beamed.
Now that Alden needs to tape regularly for Encantadia, he will have to juggle the show with his many other commitments. Alden, however, assures his fans that he will not sacrifice Eat Bulaga, where his celebrity shot to fame as the other half of “AlDub” in the hit “Kalyeserye” segment.
Is it because he fears having to miss Maine Mendoza?
Alden just looked at Showbuzz with his familiar smile. “Actually, I miss Maine already. She has been in the States for several days now and I’m not used that I don’t get to see her every day. Although we communicate regularly through Viber, it’s still different when she’s here—you can look at her straight in the eye, and you can hold her. Sayang nga, I was supposed to be with her in the States but I wasn’t able to get my visa on time. But she’ll already be back this weekend so we’ll see each other soon.
Single “with a capital S” is how Aljur Abrenica, Rocco Nacino, Jake Vargas, and Derrick Monasterio describe their status these days. These four Kapuso hearthrobs will entertain and tease their audience as reported by The Manila Times Entertainment on Thursday’s issue in their first concert together at the Music Museum on September 23, entitled Oh Boy!
The four performers shared with Showbuzz that they sat down with their producers and director to discuss the contents of the concert, and as Aljur related, “We promise everyone a show that they will love. This is the type of show that everyone will talk about, even days after they’ve seen it.”
“This is the first time I’m doing a live concert,” Rocco said. “I’m actually nervous, and it’s a good thing I’ll be with this three guys who all sing well. I’ll make up for it with a lot of teasing though,” he laughed. “Be mindful of surprises from the four of us… Here’s a clue: our costumes easily rip!”
“We can’t really say what we’ll do when the adrenalin is already there. There might be some spur of the moment decision on our part to please the audience all the more. The show may just get to be very naughty, but of course they will be treated to good musical numbers. The songs we will do range from the ‘70s to the present. People might even be surprised to hear us sing songs that they probably never thought we knew,” Derrick enthused.
“Besides singing, the numbers will surely make the audience feel like dancing with us. And this we tell you—we’re ready to dance with you. These three guys who have such nicely toned body can go really sexy. Being the smallest, I’ll just be cute!” Jake added laughing.
Kylie Padilla expressed admiration for her transgender uncle BB Gandanghari who filed a petition in California to change her name from Rustom Padilla to Binibini Gandanghari, as well as her gender from male to female.
“I know that there will be people who will raise their eye brows and judge Tita BB and those who will not understand her. But she chooses to ignore what people will say and just went ahead with her decision. She knows what will make her happy and that’s what’s important. It’s really an act of bravery,” Kylie said.
Support and understanding are what Kylie wants to give her Tita Bb, which is why she already addresses her father Robin Padilla’s brother as a female.
“She moves so well. She’s more ladylike that I am and so prime and proper! Compared to Tita BB I’m so rough especially with all the fighting techniques I’ve learned for Encantadia. I need to show how good I am as a fighter on the soap so I’ve really taken a fighter’s stance that’s really quite manly.”
