After catapulting Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza to superstardom in 2015, the ever loyal fans of the “AlDub” love team organized a fandom festival at Mall of Asia SMX Convention Center in Pasay City on October 16.
Considered a feat even by Eat Bulaga director Mike Tuviera—the show, which created the “Kalyeserye” series where AlDub’s love story accidentally unfolded—the festival is a natural progression for this thousands-strong organized group, which filled the 25,000-capacity Philippine Arena in Bulacan for their idols in December 2015.
“No network was involved, no management was involved, it was just AlDub Nation! I haven’t experienced this before,” Tuviera exclaimed.
Indeed, never in the history of Philippine entertainment, that a fan festival has been organized to the extent of their event.
Triumphantly so, aldubnation16.com posted on Monday, “[Sunday] was a big event for AlDub Nation as we celebrated our very first AlDub Nation Fan Fest 2016. This is also the first time ever for a fandom to make a festival.”
As a treat, the Tuviera released the DVD version of AlDub’s first major movie, Imagine You And Me in time for the special event, thrilling fans even more.
Meanwhile, AlDub fans expressed worry during the fan fest over the possibility that Richards and Mendoza may soon be paired with other stars. GMA Network executive Annette Gozon Abrogar in response assured them that this will not happen. In fact, she announced that a follow-up is already in the works for Imagine You and Me from GMA Films.
Over in Eat Bulaga the following day, the excitement was just as high with AlDub’s love story picking up again on “Kalyeserye,” announcing the couple’s engagement.
On the noontime show’s Facebook account, a photo of Richards’ pamamanhikan was captioned: “Ang bilis ng panahon, ‘no? Dati date lang ang pinaghahandaan natin, ngayon, kasal na. [How time flies–from preparing their dates, we’re now getting ready for their wedding].”
And again, AlDub lorded over Twitterverse with the hashtag #AlDubEngaged.
