Thursday night saw the premiere of GMA Network’s Christmas station ID for 2015.
Now an annual tradition by the two biggest TV stations in the country—both for summer and Christmas—a station ID generally gathers all the networks stars in a themed music video, with its top talents taking the lead in singing an original composition.
This year, however, the country’s topmost leading man Alden Richards had been picked by his mother studio to sing “MaGMAhalan Tayo Ngayong Pasko” (with music by Simon Tan, and lyrics Brian James Camaya and Clare Yee) all on his own.
In the lead up to the ID’s premiere on November 12, GMA uploaded a music video of
Alden’s recording, which instantly generated views in the hundreds of thousands. Along with these views were, as expected, were praises and bashing on social media. While the general response toward the catchy tune was positive, there were others who took to Twitter to ask why Alden was made to go solo for a station ID.
“Why Alden lang? Pwede naman po lahat ng GMA artists di’ba?”
“Sana collaboration nalang po, ang daming singers ng GMA, di lang si Alden.”
“Di’ba ubrang si Regine [Velasquez Alcasid], Julie Ann [San Jose] o lahat na?”
True as all these tweets may be, it looks like GMA Network is just striking the iron while it’s hot. And who can blame them? While the hottest couple in showbiz today is the phenomenal AlDub tandem, it is Alden who is officially the network’s talent (Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza is technically an artist of Tape Inc., the producers of Eat Bulaga), and thus the man who has turned the ratings game overwhelmingly to GMA’s favor.
So that’s that. No matter what anyone says, it is truly a merry Christmas for GMA Network, and Alden is their gorgeous and adorable Santa Clause.
All the same, the Christmas ID brings the network’s message “genuine and pure love” still with GMA network’s brightest stars given their moments throughout the Cesar Cosme directed five-minuter.
One with the network’s message of love are GMA’s best and brightest stars including Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, AiAi de las Alas, Lovi Poe, Heart Evangelista, Michael V, Willie Revillame, Dennis Trillo, Tom Rodriguez, Megan Young, Carla Abellana, Barbie Forteza, Bianca Umali, Miguel Tanfelix, Andre Paras, Ruru Madrid, Gabbi Garcia, and German Moreno.
They are joined by Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon leading Dabarkads, with the phenomenal love team of Alden and Maine Mendoza, together with Lola Nidora, Lola Tidora and Lola Tinidora.
Also featured are GMA’s formidable News and Public Affairs team with news pillars Mel Tiangco, Mike Enriquez, Jessica Soho, Vicky Morales, Arnold Clavio and Howie Severino.
“With heartwarming scenes full of tradition and the sharing of the gifts of love and laughter among those we care about the most, the 2015 GMA Christmas station ID shows a holiday that is truly Pinoy, and truly Kapuso,” said the network’s management.
