A star-studded tribute screening for FPJ’s ‘Ang Probinsyano’
On what would have been the 76th birthday of the King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe Jr., ABS-CBN and Dreamscape Entertainment held a grand tribute screening of the upcoming TV adaptation of his 1997 blockbuster movie Ang Probinsyano.
Still very much loved in show business a decade after his death, the biggest stars in the industry trooped to the TriNoMa Cinema in Quezon City to remember the kind-hearted action star who almost became president of the republic.
Leading the evening’s star-studded guest list were of course FPJ’s wife, the Queen of Philippine Movies Susan Roces, their only daughter Sen. Grace Poe-Llamanzarez with her husband Neil and son Bryan; and the complete cast of the TV adaptation, with Coco Martin, Maja Salvador, Bella Padilla, Agot Isidro, Jaime Fabregas and Arjo Atayde, among others.
Also spotted on the red carpet were Eddie Garcia, Lorna Tolentino, Dawn Zulueta, Cherie Pie Picache, Tonton Gutierrez, Richard Yap, Julia Montes, James Reid, and singer KZ Tandingan who brought the house down with her soaring rendition of Ang Probinsyano’s theme song, “Huwag Ka Nang Umiyak.”
Just before the screening, Roces, who is also featured in the teleserye, credited Coco for his idea to turn Ang Probinsyano into an action-drama series as a tribute to FPJ.
“Nais kong pasalamatan si Coco na nakadiskubre na puwedeng gawing teleserye itong pelikulang ito ni FPJ. Sana maibigan n’yo ang aming obra,” said the “Queen.”
FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano is scheduled for a September premiere on ABS-CBN primetime.
