THE all-new Ford Mustang finally galloped into Manila on Thursday, eight months after it entered production at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan. The sixth-generation Mustang comes loaded with innovative technologies that delivers world-class levels of power, performance and style for a more controlled, connected and comfortable driving experience.
The all-new Mustang made its debut back in December 2013, during same-day media events in Dearborn, Michigan, Los Angeles in California, New York, Barcelona in Spain, Shanghai in China, and Sydney in Australia. It also marks the 50th anniversary of the Mustang that first debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair in the Flushing Meadows Corona Park, New York City.
In the half-century that the Mustang has been produced, it is evident how well loved this iconic car is, with over 9 million units sold since 1964. And for the first time in its 50-year history, the Mustang now comes with a factory-made, right-hand-drive model, specifically made for the European and Asian markets, further cementing its place as a global automotive icon.
All-new shape, yet unmistakably Mustang
The clean-sheet design of the all-new Mustang suggests the essential charm of the iconic model and retains key design elements with a contemporary execution, including its signature shark-bite front fascia and trapezoid grille. Its long sculpted hood and short rear-deck paired with a sleeker profile shouts Mustang more than anything else.
Other key features of the sixth-generation Mustang include a lower, wider stance with a reduced roof height, wider rear fenders and track, and three-dimensional tri-bar tail lamps. Its tires have been fitted with 19-inch aluminum wheels for a more aggressive stance.
Inside, the information controls and active driver needs are neatly arranged in the aviation-inspired cockpit. Large clear instrumentation puts vehicle information right in front of the driver, while improved ergonomics and tactile switches and knobs provide better control. The added width and new rear suspension contribute to improved shoulder and hip room for passengers, and more trunk space that can accommodate two golf bags.
The all-new Mustang delivers world-class dynamics and ride quality, featuring all-new front and rear suspension systems and the most capable brake lineup ever offered in its history.
At the front, a new perimeter sub frame helps to stiffen the structure while reducing mass, providing a better foundation for more predictable wheel control that benefits handling, steering and ride. The new double-ball-joint front MacPherson strut system also enables the use of larger, more powerful brakes.
At the rear is an all-new integral-link independent rear suspension. The geometry, springs, dampers and bushings all have been specifically modified and tuned for this high-performance application. New aluminum rear knuckles help reduce unsprung mass for improved ride and handling.
The all-new Mustang comes with two engines to choose from: the 5.0-liter V8 or the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. Each engine comes with its own unique grille that allows in only as much air the specific power plant needs. The reworked automatic transmission features new steering wheel-mounted shift paddles for drivers who want the choice between convenience and control.
The state-of-the-art 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging to deliver plenty of usable performance and projected segment-leading fuel efficiency. A unique intake manifold and turbocharger housing enable it to deliver the performance Mustang drivers expect, with output projected at more than 314 PS and 434 Nm of torque.
The latest edition of the 5.0-liter V8 now features an upgraded valve train and cylinder heads that yield more than 441 PS of power and 542 Nm of torque. A new intake manifold improves low-speed breathing for better fuel economy, idle stability and emissions, making it the most powerful V8 engine in GT history.
Active grille shutters will help increase fuel-efficiency by further reducing drag at higher speeds when extra cooling capacity is not needed. The shutters can completely close off the grille, sending air over and around the car instead of through the engine compartment.
The all-new Mustang is equipped with advanced technologies to assist drivers in creating a safe driving environment. Driver-assist features including Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert and adaptive cruise control can help ease the load, while SYNC AppLink lets drivers control their smartphone apps to listen to their favorite form of entertainment. These enhancements will provide the ability to deliver information such as the maximum change in velocity during impact, indication of crash type (front, side, rear or rollover), safety belt usage as detected by the vehicle, awareness of whether multiple impacts occurred, and whether airbags were deployed.
An all-new inflatable airbag restraint design provides the front-seat passenger with knee airbag protection while significantly reducing system size and weight, enabling a roomier interior for more comfort. This new airbag is part of a standard comprehensive safety system that includes a more robust package of sensors, safety belt anchor pretensioners, improved exterior lighting and double the total number of airbags.
The all-new Mustang features a significant amount of innovative technologies that provide drivers with enhanced information, control and connectivity when they want it. From Intelligent Access with push-button start to SYNC with MyFord Touch and MyKey in every Mustang built, to the standard Track Apps and a new Shaker Pro Audio System, drivers will be able to customize their time behind the wheel.
Toggle switches on the console allow drivers to quickly adjust steering effort, engine response, and transmission and electronic stability control settings at the tip of their fingers. The advanced new Ford-developed stability control system is tuned to maximize the all-new Mustang’s dynamic capabilities. A selection of Drive Modes also allows drivers to create the perfect Mustang for whatever road it faces.
The 2.3-liter EcoBoost comes in four dynamic colors: Race Red, Oxford White, Magnetic Metallic and Black. The 5.0L V8 GT also comes in these four exciting colors with two additional vibrant colors in Triple Yellow Tri-coat and Competition Orange.
Prices start at P2.49 million for the 2.3-liter EcoBoost model and P2.99 million for the 5.0-liter V8 model. The all-new Mustang will be available in Ford dealerships starting in May.
