Once again, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) and the Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit (OPM) are opening doors of opportunities to aspiring singers through the “OPM@Pagcor 4: A Nationwide Search for the Total OPM Performer.”

Now on its fourth year, the nationwide singing search gives Filipinos with exceptional singing talents a chance to showcase their ability and make a living out of it.

According to OPM president Ogie Alcasid, the competition serves as a vehicle for OPM and Pagcor to regain the Filipinos’ appreciation of original Filipino music.

“Pagcor and the Organisasyon ng Mga Pilipinong Mang-Aawit embarked on this project as part of our advocacy to help revive the glory days of OPM. We believe that through this singing search, we are helping the younger generation, especially the participants to realize the beauty of our own music. We believe that by influencing the youth to appreciate OPM, they can also influence others to support Pinoy music,” he said.

Alcasid added that previous OPM@Pagcor winners have been given several opportunities by the agency. “Apart from the cash prizes that they received, our singing contest also helped train the winners to become versatile performers. They regularly undergo workshops conducted by luminaries in the local music industry. They are also given the chance to perform with the best OPM artists,” he cited.

According to Bong Quintana, Pagcor’s AVP for Entertainment, the winners of the competition have also become mainstay performers in various Casino Filipino (CF) branches nationwide. “They have toured the Philippines for their concerts and shows in our various venues. Their talents are being recognized not just by our audience but also by our local celebrity performers and artists.”

Quintana noted there are so many undiscovered talents in the country. “We just have to give them an opportunity to showcase their raw talent and the competition is a perfect venue for that,” he added.
