CLAIMING that there were massive cheating and widespread irregularities, losing mayoralty candidate Ma. Rebecca Carissa Tiñga asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to declare a “failure of elections” in Taguig City.
Tiñga’s legal counsel, Atty. Maria Bernadette Sardillo said the petition was filed against Cayetano and the City Board of Canvassers.
In filing the petition, Tinga also asked the Comelec to annul the results of the proclamation of reelected Mayor Lani Cayetano and declare the holding of special elections for the said position.
“At the core of the petition is Cayetano’s massive use of pre-shaded, precinct specific official ballots which were handed to voters and received and read by the PCOS machines,” Sardillo said.
Tinga said they have already submitted to Comelec the witnesses’ accounts on being handed pre-shaded ballots in several Clustered Precincts in various barangays.
“It is believed that the systematic cheating was perpetrated in all the 28 barangays of Taguig,” she said.
According to the petition, “with all the BEIs (Board of Election Inspectors), the school principals, the DepEd Division personnel, the Comelec support staff and poll technicians forming an unholy alliance and conspiring in the colossal fraud,” the massive use of the pre-shaded ballots was executed with amazing speed and ease.
