THE University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) beat Letran twice in a row by posting a 67-64 win against the Knights on Wednesday in the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Earl Scottie Thompson, Juneric Baloria, Harold Arboleda and Joel Jolangco combined for a big 54 points to power the Altas’ seventh win in 11 matches. UPHSD now moved to the second spot behind co-leaders San Beda College Red Lions (9-2) and Arellano University Chiefs (9-2).
The College of Saint Benilde Blazers, however, could gain a share of the second position if they win over the Lyceum Pirates. The Blazers and the Pirates were still playing at press time.
Baloria led the Altas with 18 points while Thompson finished with 16 points on top of 13 rebounds and three assists. Joel Jolangcob and Harold Arboleda contributed 10 points apiece. The Altas also trounced the Knights, 85-82, in the first round of the elimination on August 9, through Baloria’s 32 points highlighted by six-of-11 in the three-point zone.
