The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas will face the Lyceum Pirates while the College of Saint Benilde Blazers will challenge the Letran Knights today in the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
A tight battle is expected between the Altas and the Pirates at 2 p.m. before the clash between the Blazers and the Knights at 4 p.m.
In the juniors division, the Altalettes will play against the Junior Pirates at 10 a.m. while the Baby Blazers will battle the Squires at 10 a.m.
Southeast Asian Games standout and reigning MVP Earl Scottie Thompson with the support of Nigerian imports Bright Akhuetie and Prince Eze will lead coach Aric del Rosario’s Altas in their fight against the Pirates.
“We’re blessed to have players like them who are good on and off the court,” said del Rosario of players Akhuetie and Eze.
Akhuetie and Eze will test their mettle against the Lyceum team now under the tutelage of Topex Robinson and former NCAA and PBA star Rommel Adducul. Robinson and Adducul replaced former Pirates coach Bonnie Tan.
Expected to give the Altas a rough game are Lyceum’s Joseph Gabayni, Jebb Bulawan, Seraja Elmejrab and the African duo of Guy Mbida and Jean Victor Nguidjol.
“Although we have some players who are remnants from last year, this is actually a team with a brand new outlook,” said Robinson.
