Altas stake unbeaten card in NCAA


UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help System Dalta stakes its unbeatean slate when it faces equally tough San Sebastian College-Recoletos while defending titlist San Beda Red Lions take on Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals today in the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Perpetual Altas are currently carrying a 2-0 card and need to win today to regain their share of the top spot along with Letran Knights, who surged to the solo lead following a 69-66 win over Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers last Saturday for a 3-0 record.

Coach Aric del Rosario’s Altas clash with the Stags at 6 p.m. following the San Beda Red Lions and Emilio Aguinaldo Generals encounter at 4 p.m.

The two juniors matches pit reigning champion San Beda Red Cubs against Emilio Aguinaldo Brigadiers at 12 noon while the San Sebastian Staglets meet the Perpetual Help Altalettes at 2 p.m.

Del Rosario, who once steered the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers to four-straight championships in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines from 1993 to 1996, expressed confidence his wards can keep their winning ways against the Golden Stags, whom they have not yet defeated since 2009.
