A female medic of the New People’s Army (NPA), identified as Rebecca Megew Timban, surrendered to the Philippine Army’s 27th Infantry Battalion in a remote village in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato on Christmas Day. Command Chief Aurelio Baladad lauded the surrender and called on other Maoist rebels to follow Timban’s example. “We welcome the surrender. This is the best gift for her family (this Christmas),” Baladad said. Timban is now undergoing psychological debriefing and will receive government benefits like financial and livelihood assistance.
