Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa hosted a reception on the occasion of the national day of Japan, which observed the 82nd Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor.
Held in December at the ambassador’s residence in Makati City, the reception was attended by Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, Senate President Franklin Drilon and other distinguished guests.
In his welcome speech, Ambassador Ishikawa stressed on the continued cooperation, support and the significant developments between Japan and the Philippines. Moreover, he announced the upcoming visit of the Emperor and Empress themselves to the Philippines this year.
“We are anticipating even bigger breakthroughs as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Japan. In fact, I am very pleased to announce that, preparations are now underway for the upcoming state visit of their Majesties Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to the Philippines next month. Their Majesties visited the Philippines in 1962 when they were crown prince and princess. This is the first time that a reigning Emperor of Japan will come to visit the Philippines,” he said.
Because of this, he noted at the event the 2015 state visit of President Benigno Aquino 3rd to Japan. In that meeting, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Aquino jointly declared that the relationship between the two countries has now entered the stage of Strengthened Strategic Partnership.
He further noted that through a bilateral meeting during the APEC Leaders’ Meeting in Manila, both leaders have had the opportunity to reaffirm deepened bilateral ties between the two countries.
“Keeping in mind all these positive developments under the strengthened strategic partnership, let us keep on working together in advancing our mutual ties for many years to come,” he added.
Following a welcome remarks from Ambassador Ishikawa, del Rosario delivered toast remarks expressing hope for the continued good health and well-being of His Majesty, the strengthening of the Strategic Partnership between the Philippines and Japan and the enduring friendship between the Filipino and Japanese people.
Also at the reception are Japanese companies who have set up their booth for the promotion of their products, technology and services.
