Business icon and Consul General of Austria Washington Sycip making his way across the catwalk in a pink barong. Lovely lady ambassadors strutting their stylish side. Gentlemen ambassadors looking dapper in colored barongs, with their wives stunning the crowd in their elegant Filipiniana ensembles. And finally, His Excellency US Ambassador Harry Thomas Jr. gamely doing the twist in a red silken Kultura Filipino number.
With such scenes on the runway, there can be no doubt that the fashion show-for-a-cause, co-organized by the International Bazaar Foundation (IBF) and the Spouses of Heads of Mission (SHOM) at the ballroom of the Marriot Hotel Manila, was like no other.
Hosted by media personality and former The Manila Times columnist RJ Ledesma, the special fashion presentation, dubbed “Global Fashion Flair” started on a truly high note with three lady ambassadors and a number of IBF and SHOM officers and members in modish cocktail dresses and long gowns courtesy of Fashion Forum, the multi-brand boutique of US labels in premier branches of The SM Store.
Ramp models for the night, the women were next clothed in beautiful Filipiniana pieces from the Kultura Filipino’s Nuevo Ystilo and Rafaella collections, as well as accessories from the store’s Tricata by Marivic Gancayco and Sparkling Creations by Pinky Jaurique lines.
Rounding off every look with stylish footwear and accessories were pieces from SM’s exclusive labels Parisian Shoes and Bags for women and Salvatore Mann shoes for men, and SM Accessories, as well as Japanese skin care and cosmetics brand Shiseido, which is available at the SM Beauty Store.
Another exciting part of the grand event was highly applauded modeling of 18 gentleman ambassadors to the Philippines from all over the world, all dashing in exquisite barong Filipinos from En Barong Filipino of Kultura Filipino.
“The generosity of the SM Group in supporting social causes of the International Bazaar Foundation is a good model for top corporations to emulate,” enthused Gretchen del Rosario, wife of Secretary Albert del Rosario of the DFA and head of the IBF.
She related that the proceeds of “Global Fashion Flair” will go to the philanthropic programs of the IBF and SHOM, which include scholarships for deserving indigent children, financial support for the elderly, and an assistance fund for abused and abandoned children.
“The ambassadors and their spouses look forward to this rare opportunity to step into the catwalk wearing the latest fashions and accessories all for a worthy cause—to support IBF and SHOM’s programs of kindness and openheartedness,” concluded Monaco Consul General Fortune Ledesma, event chairman of the one of a kind fashion presentation.
