Ambushed Calauan mayor in stable condition

CAMP Vicente Lim, Laguna: Calauan Mayor Buenafrido Berris has been declared in stable condition by doctors after an ambush on Sunday that killed a youth leader and his driver, police said on Monday.

Calauan police head, Chief Insp. Luis Perez, said Berris survived the attack but his companions – Emmanuel Peña who is running for councilor in Calauan, and Leonardo Taningco, Berris’ driver – did not reach the hospital alive.

Berris and the victims were onboard a campaign vehicle when a car cut in and the suspect fired several shots at them while in Barangay Imok, Calauan .

San Pablo City police later found a green Toyota Corolla with plate number PSP 326 – believed to be the suspect’s getaway vehicle abandoned in a nearby village.

Perez said they were tracing the owner of the vehicle.
