After countless visits to different destinations in the Philippines, American clarinetist Andrew Simon will perform in the country for the first time as he joins the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra in their Spotlight Series concert tomorrow evening at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City.
Noted for his excellent playing style and technique, Simon has held numerous performances around the world, and has long been part of the internationally acclaimed Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra as the principal clarinetist.
Visiting the country as a tourist for the past 22 years, Simon is familiar to the signature Filipino hospitality, and said that he is very much excited to “exchange cultures with the Filipinos,” as he hopes to give us an authentic performance.
On July 24, Simon will demonstrate his skill on the clarinet through master works written for his instrument. His performance tomorrow will include Copland’s Clarinet Concerto, Weber’s Concertino in E-flat, Debussy’s Première Rhapsodie, Baerman’s Adagio for Clarinet and Orchestra, and a few more pieces prepared by the orchestra.
Throughout his performance, Simon will use the R-13 model of Buffet-Crampon Clarinets, a world-class maker of woodwind instruments based in France.
As the second feature concert of the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra this year, this upcoming performance is part of their Spotlight Series—a chain of concerts that feature masterpieces from world-renowned composers, performers and music masters.
