Two cultural giants—former Sen. Edgardo Angara and Maestro Ryan Cayabyab—are spearheading a summit for artistic exchange to promote tradition and innovation.

The two-day gathering, dubbed “Tareptepan Arts and Music Festival,” begins today, and will take place at the senator’s beloved town of Baler in Aurora province.

Tareptepan is being envisioned to be an annual artistic summit, which can also spotlight Baler’s local talents while inspiring the youth to pursue their gifts, be they in the performance or visual arts.

The festival name “tareptep” is a word that describes ripples made on the water with the slightest touch of the finger. The concept encapsulates the festival’s objective for local artists create their very own ripples for the world to see.

A patron of culture and the arts, Angara was conferred by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts with the 2013 Dangal ng Haraya award as a Patron of the Arts and Culture (Tagapagtaguyod ng Sining at Kultura).

At the summit, Cayabyab is scheduled to facilitate the following workships: “Elements Presentation and Workshop” (open to young singer-songwriters ages 18 to 35); “Akapella Open Presentation and Workshop” (open to choirs and chorale enthusiasts who will also be getting on-the-spot diagnostics and workshops from Cayabyab); and “Philpop Presentation and Workshop” (a presentation of Philpop Musicfest Foundation and workshop on songwriting open to all ages).

A paper cut art and visual arts workshop will likewise be facilitated by Sinag de Leon; while painting workshops will be carried out by the Dimadimalangat Artists.

A food fair and exhibit will further form part of the overall program showcasing the best that Baler and the province of Aurora has to offer.

Each night will be capped by a cultural presentation and concert featuring artists from Baler and Manila, including Blue Island, Naomi Aoki, June Marieezy, Himig Malaya, Indio I, Lawiswis Kawayan, Blackmoon, Cosmic Love, Flippin’ Soul Stompers and Sinosikat. These shows will take place at the Bahia Pavilion, with overall stage production executed by Curve Entertainment.
