Eat Bulaga mainstay Paolo Ballesteros triumphantly turned heads in Japan on the red carpet of the Tokyo International Film Festival as Angelina Jolie!

Held Tuesday in the Japanese capital, the comedian and expert transformation makeup artist, had a film in competition at the festival titled, Die Beautiful.

While his Jolie get-up might seem like a whim, it is actually a very fitting tribute to the movie where Ballesteros plays a transgender woman whose dying wish is to be dressed as Lady Gaga to her funeral. The situation becomes a fierce contention between the lead’s well-meaning drag queen gang and her conservative Filipino-Chinese family.

It was Die Beautiful director Perci Intalan who posted his photo with Ballesteros on Instagram and Facebook on Tuesday, captioning the photo “The #diebeautiful Power Couple #tiffjp #redcarpet.”

The Manila Times Entertainment columnist Lhar Santiago first wrote about Ballesteros’ planned transformation in “Showbuzz.” He said the talented actor-host was “toying with the idea of dressing up as very popular Hollywood actress, whose identity is under wraps.”

Jolie of course is a genius choice by Ballesteros what with the Hollywood A-lister hogging headlines in September for filing a divorce from husband Brad Pitt.

The APT-Intalan-Jun Robles Lana co-production is one of the rare times a Filipino movie has been included in the premiere category of the Japanese film festival.

Die Beautiful has also been submitted to the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival in December.

Meanwhile, Ballesteros’ comedy movie with Anne Curtis and Dennis Trillo, Bakit Lahat Ng Guwapo May Boyfriend?, is still showing in theatres nationwide.
