Hiro Peralta bears a striking resemblance to Elvis Presley

The Manila Times was pleasantly surprised to find that GMA Network tween heartthrob Hiro Peralta is a young Elvis Presley-look alike up close.

Sitting down with the 18-year-old Adonis on Tuesday night at the launch of his latest drama project for the station, the former basketball varsity player of San Beda College revealed that both his father and his grandfather also bear a striking resemblance to the late King of Rock ‘N Roll.

“They’re also professional singers, as well as my mom,” Hiro added. “I sing too, often in [German Moreno’s] Walang Tulugan, but I’m not so familiar with Elvis Presley’s songs.”

The dramatic actor whose TV debut was in the youth oriented series Tween Hearts in 2010, said he looked up a photo of Presley some years back when a complete stranger in Boracay went up to him and asked if she could snap a picture with him. New to showbiz then, the excited lady did not know Hiro was an actor, and told him that she looks just like “The King” who was her idol growing up.

“Kamukha ko nga po pala talaga,” he laughed, showing The Manila Times the Elvis Presley photo he saved on his smartphone.

He credits his good looks to a mix of German, Japanese and Filipino blood.

“I’m also related to the Magalonas of showbiz,” he added. “My complete name is Hirojenel Benz Magalona Peralta.”

Hiro said that his current manager John Fontanilla discovered him and convinced him to join show business at a very difficult crossroads for his family.

“My older brother who was a model had just died of an accident, and during the wake John met me and asked me if I wanted to go into acting,” he recalled.

At first, Hiro was hesitant, as well as his parents who became over protective of him, but in memory of his brother, he slowly started modeling until a TV offer came from GMA Network.

Since then, Hiro has appeared in the supporting cast of concluded series, Iglot, Biretera and Cielo de Agelina, and has finally gotten his biggest break in the network’s latest primetime teleserye Anna Karenina, which premieres on June 3.

Hiro joins the lead cast of tween stars Barbie Forteza, Joyce Ching and Kyrstal Reyes, along with Derrick Monasterio and Julian Trono, in the remake of the successful ‘90s drama.

Anna Karenina is directed by Gina Alajar and written by RJ Nuevas. It airs weekdays beginning Monday after 24 Oras.
