Actress’ first US-made movie opens this October
No matter how talented Filipino artists may be in the field of entertainment, to break through to the international scene often remains just a dream for most.
But for the ever-amazing Anne Curtis—arguably the biggest celebrity in Philippine showbiz today—the “dream” just happened to happen.
Two years ago, while busy with a thriving career on TV, the movies, and multiple endorsements deals at the home front, a friend told Anne that a US-based Filipino-American director had come in to audition talents for a movie he would film and show in the States.
“I think every actress would just love to go to Hollywood and make a go for it, but it was always hard to leave what I have here,” Anne told The Manila Times in an interview Thursday night. “So when my friend told me there was an opportunity to do that here, I thought, ‘Perfect!’ and took it.”
The actress, who truly seems to have a charmed life, was talking about director Francis dela Torre’s visit to Manila in 2012 to look for fresh talents for Blood Ransom, a romance/suspense-thriller he was set to begin.
Anne turned out to be the perfect choice for the role of Crystal—the beautiful and mysterious female lead of the movie—and just like that, she got the part and flew out to Los Angeles to and started filming.
“It was a dream come true,” she gushed. “After asking Boss Vic [del Rosario of Viva Films, her talent manager]and ABS-CBN for permission to take a leave from [my hosting duties in]Showtime, I spent a month shooting Blood Ransom in the States and it’s finally showing this October!”
The movie will open in theaters nationwide on October 29, a couple of days before its US showing on October 30.
Joining Anne on Thursday for the Philippine Blood Ransom promotion was her co-actor and leading man Alexander Dreymon (Christopher and His Kind, 2011, BBC; American Horror Story: Coven, 2013, FX), who only had good words to say about her.
In recalling his experience on the set with Anne, the, American actor raved, “First impressions are always important and from the start Anne was a hard worker and a dedicated actress.”
As for the Filipina in Hollywood, she relished the experience of working in “a different kind of world,” where specific working hours were observed, and where most everyone on the set brought artistic talents backed with education.
“Not all of them studied film or acting but for those who did, they inspired me to do the same,” she revealed. “Gusto ko talaga mag-aral.”
Asked what she thinks starring in an American movie means for her career now, Anne good-naturedly laughed off insinuations of higher talent fees and more aggressive steps toward a Hollywood career.
“I don’t know what will happen after the movie shows,” she humbly replied. “Right now, I’m just excited for my fans to see something completely different from anything I’ve done before. I haven’t looked into anything further than that.”
With Anne Curtis’ acting chops, her hard working ways, and yes, her ever charmed life, something bigger is sure come out of nowhere again, very soon.
