THE PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Monday said another member of the Al-Qaeda linked Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) involved in the kidnapping of plantation workers in 2001 was arrested.
ASG member Bantong Basinti, who is under the group of ASG commander Isnilon Hapilon, his uncle, was nabbed by CIDG operatives in Western Mindanao, supported by elements of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and Basilan Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) based on a warrant of arrest for eight counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention.
Basinti was nabbed early on Friday in Barangay Bulansa in Lantawan town, Basilan.
Basinti and Hapilon’s Group were involved in the kidnapping of more than a dozen workers of Golden Harvest Plantation in a remote village in Lantawan on June 11, 2001.
Early last week, an ASG member identified as Munib Bararuddi who is wanted for eight counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention was also arrested in Zamboanga City.
Joint operatives of CIDG Zamboanga and the intelligence unit of the 3rd Air Wing Division, 530th Air Base Wing (ABW) of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) captured Bararuddi along the shoreline of Lampinigan Island in Barangay Dita.
In another operation, three men believed to be potential members of a private armed group were arrested on Friday evening in the village of Kalanganan in Cotabato City.
Seized from the three – Ismael Kamsa, Kle Tambara and Jomer Anggar – were a baby Armalite, two caliber .45 pistols, magazines and several rounds of ammunition. They will be facing charges for violation of R.A. 10591 (Firearms and Ammunition Law).
