Another bus burned in South Cotabato

COTABATO CITY: Senior Supt. Franklin Alvero, South Cotabato police director, said a group of armed men who identified themselves as members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) burned another 35-seater air-conditioned unit of Yellow Bus Lines (YBL) in Santo Nino town. The bus (body number 7225) came from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat and was bound for Gen. Santos City when attacked by the NPAs at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alvero said the bus had 17 passengers, plus a driver and bus conductor. Two of the suspects boarded the bus in Isulan terminal while four others boarded at Santo Nino terminal, he added. About five minutes later, the suspects declared they were NPAs and directed the driver to divert the bus to a dirt road leading to a public cemetery in Purok Pioneer, Barangay Poblacion in Santo Nino. More armed men emerged and ordered all passengers to get off the bus while other gunmen doused gasoline around it and then set the bus on fire. Alvero said it was the 4th YBL bus burned since November 13 by gunmen claiming to be communist rebels.
