FILIPINO boxer Rogen Ladon soundly defeated Iraqi boxer Naser Hasan on Thursday to advance in the next round of the 27th Asian Elite Men’s Championships at the Amman Boxing Arena in Amman, Jordan.
Ladon, who substituted for the injured London Olympic light flyweight Mark Anthony Bariga, displayed aggressiveness in the entire three rounds to post 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 in the three judges’ scorecards.
The Bago City native used cat-like sidestepping and counter-punches that frustrated the Iraqi throughout the fight. Ladon will again plunge into action on Saturday against Temerlas Zhussupov of Kazakhstan.
With the win, Ladon joined his compatriot, 2010 Asian Games gold medalist Rey Saludar, in the roster of winners of the meet that attracted boxers from 27 Asian countries. Saludar who notched two wins in the first two days of the competition will battle Thai Tanes Ongjunta on Friday in the flyweight class quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, set to fight on Thursday against veteran Ardee Sailom of Thailand is lightweight Junel Cantancio, who, just over a week ago won a silver medal in the prestigious China Open in Guiyang, China. Another Filipino, bantamweight Mario Fernandez, will take on Kairat Yeraliyev of Kazakhstan.
The tournament ends on Monday.
