COMBINED police and military efforts resulted to the arrest of another Maguindanao massacre suspect, Chief Inspector Elizabeth Jasmin, spokesman of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said on Friday.
Jasmin said that the CIDG-ARMM and the army’s 45th Infantry Battalion have arrested Mama Habib, one of the suspects of the 2009 Maguindanao Massacre, at Barangay Manungkaling, Mamasapano town in Maguindanao province at about 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
The CIDG spokesman said that Habib was arrested base on a warrant of arrest for 58 counts of murder issued by Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC) Branch 21. The arrest, she also said, was part of an on-going police manhunt operation to account all those involved in the grizzly massacre.
“The arrested person is one of the suspects in the 2009 Maguidanao massacre and he is now detained at the CIDG-ARMM for temporary custody,” Jasmin said.
The CIDG spokesperson said Habib is one of the members of the civilian volunteer group of the Ampatuan clan, which was tagged as the brains behind the massacre of 58 persons, mostly members of the press, on November 21, 2009.
Several members of the powerful Ampatuan clan, led by its patriarch, former Maguindanao Governor, Andal Ampatuan are being now being tried by the QCTRC since January 2010. Anthony Vargas
