TACURONG CITY, Sultan Kudarat: The local government of Tacurong City and the group called “Men Oppose Violence Against Women and Children Everywhere” (MOVE) on Friday launched the 18-day campaign to end violence against women with the theme “End Violence Against Women [VAW] Now! It’s our Duty.”
Mayor Lina Montilla, a known women’s rights advocate, led the launching along with women and men representatives from various sectors, to include Sultan Kudarat Electric Cooperative (Sukelco), Sultan Kudarat Water District (SKWD), Notre Dame of Tacurong College (NDTC), Philippine National Police (PNP), and guests from the neighboring cities and municipalities.
Gender and Development Committee Chairperson Hon. Psyche Sucaldito provided the rationale of the activity.
In launching the “National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children,” Sucaldito reminded everyone that the law, Republic 10398, mandates key agencies to conduct activities that would raise public awareness regarding VAW.
“The campaign on violence against women is everybody’s duty,” said Montilla in her message.
She added that all citizens regardless of each one’s status have the capacity to help end violence against women.
Montilla said she was elated by the group called MOVE. The group is composed of men from all walks of life who vowed to oppose violence against women and children in Tacurong City.
