Antique mediamen donate school supplies to two remote schools

SAN JOSE, ANTIQUE: A total of 556 pupils in two remote mountain schools in the municipality of San Remigio, Antique were the surprised beneficiaries of school supplies of notebooks, pad papers, pencils, ball pens, crayons, rulers, erasers and school bags among others, distributed personally by 11 media practitioners of different radio stations and media institutions based in the province. Rey Alcalde, publisher and editor of Newsbreak said that last June 15, they had to brave the mountainous terrain and steep mountain roads by cruising the treacherous Sibalom River to reach Sinundolan Elementary School located some 20 kilometers from the Poblacion of San Remigio where 157 pupils and kinder kids were waiting for them. The group called Ramag (fireflies) composed of Newsbreak, Radio Natin, Radyo Todo, Barbaza Coop Cable TV and the Antique capitol press corps, also brought school supplies to 339 pupils of Carawisan Elementary School, some 25 kilometers away up in the mountains of San Remigio. Barangay Sinundolan used to be one of the many barangays in the province of Antique considered as rebel infested.
