Students from the SPED (Special Education) Center in San Jose, Antique took home the championship trophy in the “Kultura Rap” finals competition of Diwang: Sagisag Kultura ng Filipinas at the Hiyas ng Bulakan Convention Center in Malolos, Bulacan held on December 9.
“Kultura Rap” was organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd), with Joseph Cristobal as the project director.
The competition is a rap battle for students in the elementary level, which aims to raise public consciousness on different Filipino culture and traditions. Clad in traditional binukot costume, the contestants spoke their winning piece in Kinaray-a and in Filipino.
Their performance underlined Antique’s unique icons, nature wonders, world-class products, and its culture and heritage.
The other contestants were Malinao Elementary School in Malinao, Oriental Mindoro (Luzon) and Pigcarangan Elementary School in Tubod, Lanao del Norte (Mindanao).
Guests who attended the program were DepEd Undersecretary Alberto Muyot, Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, DepEd Region II Director Isabelita Borres, Bulacan School Division Superintendent Romeo Alip, NCCA-SCD commissioner Alice Panares, NCCA-PMED chief Adel Suemith, and NCCA-NCCOM member Quentin Pastrana.
National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario was one of the panelists who presented the award.
