CAMP BADO DANGWA, Benguet: A farmer fled with his life while three others were not as fortunate as they were shot dead and burnt on July 21 in Pudtol, Apayao.

Sr. Supt. Alberlito Garcia, Apayao provincial director identified the fatalities as Felix Bagay Matulot, 75; Jason Gangani Acob, 29; and Rogelio Init Rupad.

Garcia identified the survivor as Elevencio Pagtan Ma-tulot, 44.

All are residents of Cabugao, Apayao.

Garcia also identified the perpetrator as Dionisio Batalao Beranal and 8 John Does.

Investigators said the victims went to visit their old house in Upper Maton, Pudtol, Apayao on July 19, 2013 and the following day, they discovered that their “Lapat” (No Fishing Area) was disturbed by the suspects.

On July 21, the suspects went to the house of the victims where a heated argument ensued that triggered the killings.

Investigation further revealed that the younger Matulot was at the riverside and about to return to the house when one of the suspects fired at him, prompting him to run to safety. While on the run, Matulot said that he heard successive gunshots coming from the house.

He then went to his mother’s house in Waga, Kabugao, Apayao and on the following day he used a motorized boat to report the incident to the personnel of Pudtol MPS, Apayao Provincial Police Office.

A team was immediately dis-patched. At around 2 p.m. arriving at the scene, authorities found the house burned down together with three victims. Several used shotgun cartridges were also found at the crime scene.
